Recently, Public Knowledge welcomed back Chris Lewis as President and CEO of Public Knowledge. Lewis has returned from a 12-week sabbatical leave and will resume all duties of his role. Meredith Whipple, who performed as Interim CEO in his absence, will resume her regular duties as Chief of Staff. All Public Knowledge staff may request a paid sabbatical for up to 12 weeks after completing at least seven years of employment with the organization. All staff are expected to continue working for Public Knowledge for at least a year following a sabbatical, per organizational policy. Public Knowledge thanks Ms. Whipple for her excellent leadership during Mr. Lewis’ absence.
The following can be attributed to Chris Lewis, President and CEO of Public Knowledge:
“I am grateful to the Public Knowledge Board for the opportunity to step away this spring to recharge on a sabbatical, and I am even more grateful to Public Knowledge staff for their continued expertise and advocacy during my time away. Meredith Whipple continues to demonstrate that she is a pillar of our organization through her leadership as Interim CEO. I hope that some in the tech policy community have had the opportunity to see her contributions more publicly in these weeks as she returns to her role as Chief of Staff, an essential, but often unsung part of the Public Knowledge team.
“There is a tremendous amount of work to do in the public interest around tech and internet law, as well as the increasing threats to our institutions of government and our core American values. Our country has lost its sense of unity around what free speech and free expression mean. Our basic consumer protections for technology and the agencies that protect them are being eroded. I am excited to re-engage with the public around what is needed to build better internet and communications systems before it’s too late. And there is no organization I’d rather be at right now to help shape the future of the internet, media, and communications in our society.”
