Last week Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) and Daniel Inouye (D-HI) introduced the Protecting Children in the 21st Century Act, which would require schools to offer education on social networking, chat rooms, and 'cyberbullying.' Senator Stevens introduced a bill by the same name earlier this year which would have blocked social networking sites from school computers.

Susan Crawford has a very nice wrap-up of the issues surrounding the 700 MHz auction rule-making:
“What problem was the Commission trying to solve? That's the question we should be asking. If the problem was “increase competition for highspeed internet access,” they didn't solve it. If the problem was “don't make any one well-funded actor too mad at us,” they may have solved it. But is that the same thing as serving the public interest?”
- At the urging of telecom lobbyists, many state legislatures have passed bills prohibiting municipalities from building local wireless services. But now Congress is pushing back, and this week Rep. Rick Boucher (D-VA) introduced a bill that would prevent states from imposing anti-muni wifi legislation. A similar bill has been introduced in the Senate and has received widespread support, but as Techdirt cautions, with these sorts of issues it's best not to count your eggs before they hatch.
