Join us in Washington, DC, October 25-26 as we tell Congress to stop the NSA overreach!
STOP. WATCHING. US. That has been the message Public Knowledge and over 100 diverse groups from across the political spectrum have been telling the US government over the last couple months as part of the StopWatching.us coaltion. When the coalition started a few months ago, over 500,000 Americans joined us in asking Congress to find out exactly what is happening with the spying, stop it, and hold those responsible for pushing for such overreach accountable.
Since then, more and more revelations have come to light about how the NSA is illegally tracking our Internet and phone use (and we still don’t know the full extent). These activities continue to be an affront to the free and open Internet because Congress has not acted to stop it.
We’re getting close, though: the US House of Representatives came close to defunding the blanket collection of information under the Patriot Act in a remarkably bipartisan 205-217 vote in July. As new abuses are uncovered, more members of Congress are seeing the need to take action to stop the reckless disregard of our rights.
Supporters in Congress need more votes and they need to know the American people support what they are doing. That is why the StopWatching.us coalition wants you to join us for a rally in Washington on October 26, 2013, the 12th anniversary of the Patriot Act. We are planning to have celebrity speakers, musical guests, and to show Congress that they MUST ACT.
But it’s not just a rally. On October 25th, the day before the big event, we’re pulling people together to meet directly with members of Congress to tell them to stop the spying.
So come down to DC and rally to make the government STOP WATCHING US. RSVP here and make sure to come early if you want to lobby your legislators on October 25th. There will be a training that morning where we will help you have an effective meeting with your representatives and tell them why this is important.
Join US. We look forward to seeing you there!
