Today, Public Knowledge endorsed the Paris Call for Trust and Security in Cyberspace. The Call, developed through a multistakeholder process facilitated by the French government, promotes a rules-based cyberspace that respects human rights and fundamental freedoms by applying international law. The Call kicks-off a multi-year effort to realize its principles, and recommends a progress assessment one year after its publication.
The following can be attributed to Megan Stifel, Cybersecurity Policy Director at Public Knowledge:
“We endorse the Paris Call because we believe in the need for a sustainability-framed approach to cybersecurity. It’s critical to signal an international broad-based mobilization for the stability of cyberspace, especially in this challenging time for global governance.
“The Call aligns closely with our recent report, Securing the Modern Economy: Transforming Cybersecurity Through Sustainability, including the recognition that all actors share the responsibility to improve trust, security, and stability in cyberspace. As advanced in the Paris Call, we support the application of sustainability management to help stakeholders better understand their roles in ensuring information and communications technologies remain a productive resource for economic growth and social development.”
