Today, President Joe Biden named Commissioner Rebecca Kelly Slaughter as acting chair of the Federal Trade Commission. Since her 2018 confirmation, Commissioner Slaughter has fought for protecting consumers through holding tech companies accountable, whether through improving privacy protections or strong enforcement of the antitrust laws. Public Knowledge commends Commissioner Slaughter for her work in championing the public interest.

The following can be attributed to Charlotte Slaiman, Competition Policy Director at Public Knowledge:

“Commissioner Slaughter has tirelessly advocated for consumers and competition at the FTC. We look forward to working with her and the Commission to rein in Big Tech by holding dominant digital platforms, like Facebook, accountable and improving the privacy protections for all technology users. Americans need a strong FTC now more than ever, and we expect that Commissioner Slaughter’s FTC will be key to protecting consumers and competition.”
