Today, Public Knowledge is launching a call for applications for the second round of our online, open licensed, and tuition-free Spanish-language Open Internet Course. The 13-week course, designed to train and cultivate a new generation of Spanish speaking leaders to defend the free and open internet, will begin on June 27. Applications will be accepted until June 10 and we encourage all who are interested to apply as soon as possible.
The open course, hosted in collaboration with Peer 2 Peer University (P2PU), provides participants with an introductory overview of key internet-related issues, from cybersecurity to net neutrality to internet governance, and offers essential advocacy and strategy tools to help advocates identify their targets, formulate campaigns, and measure their impact. This second round of the online course will also include new resources and updated training materials, including a new module on spectrum management, featuring original videos from Public Knowledge and more. The modules, in conjunction with interactive webinars, writing assignments, and discussion forums, aim to make quality advocacy and internet governance-related content more accessible to Spanish speakers and Latin American audiences.
The first round of the course, which concluded in June 2015, hosted 30 participants, from advocates, to judges, to journalists, from various countries in Latin America, with the top performers gaining professional development opportunities to further their advocacy careers.
In addition to offering training support, one of the main purposes of the course is to identify new local leaders and help them create connections with leading experts and organizations in the digital rights field. Past experts have included Public Knowledge's Vice President for International Policy, Carolina Rossini, who also acts as the course’s main tutor, Olga Cavalli, Pilar Saenz, Edison Lanza, Francisco Vera Hott, and Claudio Ruiz, among others.
Up to 30 applicants will be chosen for the new class, and participants with a completion rate of at least 80 percent will receive a certificate of accomplishment. By the end of the course, participants are expected to gain a deeper understanding of the open internet and digital rights, and learn how to effectively engage in policy discussions to promote better and more human rights-centric policies. The course is intended for students, professionals, and anyone interested in internet policy and advocacy. All are also welcome to audit the course and enjoy it independently at their own pace.

Public Knowledge Invita a Nuevos Candidatos para Nuestro Curso Internet Libre y Abierto

Hoy, Public Knowledge está lanzando una convocatoria de candidaturas para la segunda ronda de nuestro curso abierto, gratuito y en español Internet Libre y Abierto, el cual se desarrollará enteramente en línea. El curso de 13 semanas, diseñado para entrenar y cultivar una nueva generación de líderes de hispanohablantes para defender el internet libre y abierto, comenzará el 27 de junio. Aplicaciones serán aceptadas hasta el 10 de junio y animamos a todos los que están interesados a aplicar lo más pronto posible.
El curso abierto, organizado en colaboración con Peer 2 Peer University (P2PU), les da a los participantes una introducción general de los temas claves relacionados con el internet, desde ciberseguridad a la neutralidad de la red a la gobernanza de internet, y ofrece estrategias de abogacía y herramientas esenciales para ayudar a los defensores identificar su objetivos, formular campañas, y medir su impacto. Esta segunda ronda del curso en línea también incluirá nuevos recursos y materiales de capacitación actualizados, incluyendo un nuevo módulo de gestión del espectro, con videos originales de Public Knowledge y más. Los módulos, junto con webinars interactivos, tareas de escritura y foros de discusión, tienen como objetivo crear contenido de calidad sobre abogacía y gobernanza de internet más accesible para hispanohablantes y audiencias en América Latina.
La primera ronda del curso, que concluyó en junio del 2015, acogió a 30 participantes, desde defensores a jueces a periodistas, de varios países de América Latina, con los de mejor desempeño ganando oportunidades de desarrollo profesional para avanzar sus carreras de abogacía.
Además de ofrecer entrenamiento, uno de los principales objetivos del curso es identificar nuevos líderes locales y ayudarles a crear conexiones con los principales expertos y organizaciones en el campo de los derechos digitales en la región y más allá. En el pasado, expertos han incluido la Vicepresidente para la Política Internacional de Public Knowledge, Carolina Rossini, quien también actúa como la tutora principal del curso, Olga Cavalli, Pilar Sáenz, Edison Lanza, Francisco Vera Hott, y Claudio Ruiz, entre otros.
Hasta 30 candidatos serán elegidos para la nueva clase, y los participantes que cumplen por lo menos 80% del curso, recibirán un certificado de logro. Al término del curso, se espera que los participantes obtengan una comprensión más profunda del internet abierta y derechos digitales, y que aprenden cómo identificar y participar eficazmente en debates de política para promover políticas mejores y más centrados a los derechos humanos. El curso está dirigido a estudiantes, profesionales y cualquier persona interesada en la política de internet y abogacía. Todos también son bienvenidos a auditar el curso y disfrutarlo de forma independiente a su propio ritmo.
