The following statement is attributed to Gigi B. Sohn, president and
co-founder of Public Knowledge:
“We congratulate Victoria Espinel on her confirmation as
Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator. As we said before, we
believe she is well qualified for the position, having served as the
assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Intellectual Property and
Innovation, and we believe she will be fair in her approach to
intellectual property enforcement issues. We look forward to working with
her.”
Note: The Obama Administration was required to appoint an Intellectual
Property Enforcement Coordinator (a so-called “IP Czar,”) by
Sec. 301 of the Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual
Property Act of 2008, which was signed into law by then-President Bush on
Oct. 13, 2008.
