On November 28, U.S. House Representative Donald McEachin passed away at the age of 61. Representative McEachin had represented Virginia’s 4th District since 2017. He was a champion of the public interest in Congress and was critical in passage of important legislation to help close the digital divide and to promote digital equity and inclusion efforts while serving as a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

The following may be attributed to Public Knowledge President & CEO Chris Lewis on behalf of Public Knowledge:

“I was so saddened to hear the news about the death of Congressman Donald McEachin. I had known Donald for over 15 years throughout his years of service in both Congress and the Virginia General Assembly, and his style of public service was one that I had always admired. Smart, personable, and relationship-focused, Donald always thought about what impacted the daily lives of his neighbors before political limelight.

“At Public Knowledge we were fortunate to have him as a leader on the Energy and Commerce Committee. His advocacy for quality broadband and the tools necessary for all Americans to benefit from broadband’s opportunities made him an important champion for consumers and Virginians, especially in rural areas. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and we are grateful for them sharing him with the public, and for his dedicated life of service.”
