Today, Public Knowledge joins an open letter to the International Telecommunication Union’s Secretary General asking for more transparency in the organization’s processes. The letter, signed by more than 32 organizations around the world, encourages the ITU to make available its documents and procedures as it prepares for the Plenipotentiary Conference later this month in Busan, South Korea.
Achieving this greater openness would enable public interest groups, academic groups and other organizations representing a wide range of countries and people to better engage with the ITU on key issues impacting the internet. Public Knowledge continues to advocate for a global open internet not controlled or limited by government and telecommunication private sector interests behind closed doors.
The following can be attributed to Carolina Rossini, Vice President of International Policy at Public Knowledge:
“We encourage the ITU to openly share its documents and procedures with the public. Opening the Committee Sessions for observers, organizing regular briefings and creating an online public contribution platform to host documents, information and commentary will help organizations inform the public of ITU policies affecting our digital rights.”
