Today marks the one-year anniversary since President Biden nominated consumer champion Gigi Sohn to serve as a Commissioner at the Federal Communications Commission. The agency has not had a full five-member commission for the entire Biden administration, which has effectively stalled key consumer protection priorities as well as our nation’s work to provide high-speed broadband to those on the wrong side of the digital divide. Public Knowledge urges Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to call the vote confirming Gigi Sohn to the FCC to get the nation’s broadband agenda back on track.
The following can be attributed to Chris Lewis, President and CEO of Public Knowledge:
“It has been a year since President Biden nominated Gigi Sohn to the FCC, which itself was 10 months into the first term of the Biden administration. It is long past time to vote on Ms. Sohn’s nomination and confirm her to the FCC, where she can put her decades of experience to work for American consumers. Public Knowledge has joined with more than 250 organizations representing a bipartisan and diverse array of voices that urge Sen. Schumer and the White House to get this nomination done. The Senate should move expeditiously on her nomination. It’s time for a vote and a fully functioning FCC.”
